IIn April 2023, thanks to funding provided by ArtsNL and support from the Town of Pouch Cove, the Pouch Cove Public Art Committee launched its third public art project, our first under our Plinth Project.
Connor MacKinnon’s "Adopt a Hydrant” was installed on October 14, 2023, in Kirby’s Garden, a public gathering area across from the Pouch Cove Town Hall.
The installation coincided with Fire Prevention Week, adding a unique dimension to the artwork. The active participation of the Pouch Cove Volunteer Fire Department highlighted a remarkable sense of community engagement. At the art launch event, Deputy Mayor Kara Connors of the Town of Pouch Cove stated that, “…. we are impressed with the process…they have the site and that determines the kind of artwork that goes in.”
This statement illustrates the interconnection between art, place, and the community it serves, which is essential for the success of public art projects.
